couldn't stop pre- christmas holiday shopping. what caused the commotion at a san francisco mall. >>> good evening, i'm elizabeth cook. >> and i'm ken bastida. the grief-stricken community of newtown, connecticut is starting to say good-bye to the littlest victims of the school massacre. loved ones and neighbors attended a pair of funerals today. one was more jack pinto, a fan of the new york giants football team. and the other, noah pozner, a boy interested in mechanical things. one of noah's rabbis read a family statement outside. >> noah, his classmates, and the heroic teachers who gave their lives trying to protect them are with god in heaven. now it's our responsibility to bring heaven down to earth. act by act, good deed by good deed, until we reach the day when no family will need to endure grief and sorrow. >> sandy hook elementary is closed as police continue their investigation. but classes will resume tomorrow in some other schools nearby. >>> around the country people are lighting candles tonight for the victims of the newtown school shooting. cbs 5 reporter was at on

. linda yee is at the mall in san francisco to explain. >> reporter: it was a momentary scare at a busy mall. somebody spotted sparks on the roof and called the fire department. aerial ladders were set up in case rescues were necessary. but it was a small grease fire in the flew of two restaurants. classrooms on the top floors were told to leave their classrooms and at once sirens started the theater management told movie goers to leave. that caused tense moments. >> because of the alarm i was like i hope there's no gunman shooting up the theater. because that's what happens in america, you know. >> just as the movie goers were leaving the theater they noticed the stores were open and people shopping. i spoke to fire commanders on the scene tonight and they said they never ordered any evacuations. no one was ever in danger. reporting live in san francisco. >>> the state of california made a half million dollar mistake. and many of us footed the bill for us. cbs reporter curtis ming on the energy rebates that never should have been paid out. >> reporter: ron boat man installed solar pane

. this is a candle light vigil held in the playground of san francisco's dolores park last night. some of the participants say they have been directly affected by gun violence. and by this most recent mass shooting. >> i work with jazz musicians, and his five year-old daughter was lost. she was bright, and fall and she had the entire world with two loving parents. ".two loving parents." >> participants in last night's vigil say it's important to remember those who were lost. but they also say it is important to open a dialog about solutions. to keep something like this from ever happening again. >> terisa: churches across the country and here in the bay area are remembering the victims of friday's school shooting. kron four's mike pelton joins us live from st. mary's cathedral in san francisco this morning. >>reporter: good morning. if you can see that this began about 30 minutes ago. many people coming in to pray for the victim's enougand the family let me show you what is a set up this vigil. the monsignor said something a few moments ago and also their goal today is to help everybod

towards san francisco wrapping up by 5:30. an accident in napa silverado trail add hardman. reports of a vehicle that hit the guardrail. chp heading out to the scene. injuries are reported. roadwork on the dumbarton bridge on the westbound side looks like that should be wrapping up within the next few minutes. cleared eastbound. no delays in the south bay. good northbound 101 through san jose, 280 guadalupe parkway no delays just yet. that's traffic. back to you. >> thank you. >>> recent rains are showing just how vulnerable our roadways can be. a new sinkhole is starting to form in the east bay. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington reports. >> reporter: what maintenance crews are worried about is this stretch of road along marsh creek flowed clayton. this is video from the scene. they have closed that part of the road. the contra costa county public works department says the road is compromised because of rain. they say a culvert failed. it's closed between deer valley and pine lane. only local traffic gets through. they don't know when the road can reopen because they need to identify
